Last season, Kennedy’s varsity baseball team took it all winning the CIF Championship at UC Riverside against Sonora, 8-1.

“We were all so excited that we won. We start practice the first month of school, and to see our hard work pay off was everything,” senior Jason May said.

Both Sonora and Kennedy were looking for a win in this game, but Kennedy came out on top with amazing plays from players like alumni Albert Munoz, senior Sebastian McSherry, and senior Chase Leonard. Senior Wyatt Johnson was the pitcher for the game, and had a total of 12 strikeouts giving Senora no room for opportunities. In the second inning, May had a hit that earned two runs for the team, giving Kennedy an early lead in the game. Senior Tyler Beckler also had a great game earning a total of three hits for the team.

Prior to making CIF, the boys had a long and rigorous practice schedule starting at the beginning of the school year.

“There is always room to improve,” May said, “If we lacked a little in one category then that is what we would practice.”

The boys had been preparing and practicing for this game since the start of the season and their confidence continued to grow with each game.

“We won a lot of close games during the season, which I think really helped their confidence,” coach Tom Monahan said.

The team’s continuous hard work from throughout the season and their record kept them motivated throughout their season. They made sure to not let their record cloud their judgement. The boys continued to improve and practice throughout the season, helping them build stronger team chemistry.

“I was very excited when we won, especially since it was our school’s first CIF baseball championship win in 30 years,” junior Adrian Ramon said.

This upcoming season should be exciting for our boys baseball team as they continue to strive and work hard with hopes to continue their winning streak and obtain another CIF title.
