On Sunday, Nov. 29, President-Elect Joe Biden announced an all-female Senior communications team for the White House, adding diversity into influential political positions. The new members include Ashley Etienne, Elizabeth Alexander, Jen Psaki, Karine Jean-Pierre, Kate Bedingfield, Pili Tobar, and Symone Sanders. The appointment of these experienced women show Biden is transitioning into the 46th presidency with diversity and inclusivity.
“Communicating directly and truthfully to the American people is one of the most important duties of a President, and this team will be entrusted with the tremendous responsibility of connecting the American people to the White House,” Biden said.
The transition of power is currently underway with this announcement revealing one of many goals relating to Biden’s presidency. The ability to communicate with the American people with full clarity is put into the trust of this press team.
“For (Biden) to pick a diverse team of all female team is promising that change can be able to happen in the country especially for the younger generation who will be able to vote in the near future,” senior Kaitlyn Tran said. “It can open new opportunities for diverse in the federal government.”
Biden has chosen women who have experience in the White House or in politics and who have worked with other politicians such as former President Barack Obama and Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders. The first-hand experience these women have with other politicians benefits them as their ability to explain decisions made by the executive cabinet have the potential to be more transparent than other presidencies.
“This is a team of some of the most talented, battle tested communicators out there,” previous White House Communications Director Jen Psaki said.
The newly appointed press team will be seen for the entirety of Biden’s presidency. Their qualifications and prior political experience lead them to be rational choices as the primary communicators of the White House.
