On Monday, May 4, Governor Gavin Newsom announced plans for California to initiate Stage Two of its reopening.
The guidelines - which are allowing for low risk businesses to reopen, as long as social distancing requirements are followed - began last Friday.
Low risk workplaces include, but are not limited to, schools, non-essential manufacturing (such as clothing and toys), retail businesses with an implemented curb-side pick up, and offices.
"As early as by the end of this week, you will have the capacity as a retailer to begin to reopen for pickup,” Newsom said in a press conference. “Clothing, bookstores, music shops, sporting goods, florists as Mother's Day approaches and other sectors within that retail sector.”
Criteria has been released as of last Thursday with safety guidelines for businesses to follow.
Consequences will be set forth for businesses that reopen without approval or do not follow the safety guidelines.
As of Friday, Newsome has hinted towards Stage Three of alleviating social distancing plans. He suggested that in the next year California could reopen higher risk workplaces such as nail salons, barbershops, gyms, and movie theaters.
In the Bay Area, however, business owners have taken slower steps with more precaution.
Newsome is anticipated to release guidelines for dine-in restaurants beginning tomorrow, May 12.
