Disneyland Forward

On April 16, the Anaheim city council approved of Disney Forward, a renovation plan, with a vote of 7-0. Located in Anaheim, Disneyland is moving forward with a $1.9 billion dollar park expansion called Disney Forward.

On May 7, council will vote again for approved renovations. They are going to be growing their theme park resort alongside hotels on disneyland drive.

“With continued investment, we can make an even larger impact in our communities, enhance area growth, and help address some of Anaheim’s most difficult challenges,” the Disneyland Forward website said.

The Disneyland Forward plan mentions new attractions, shops, and restaurants on Disneyland drive in the west area. There is no official set plan for the attractions but based on other Disneylands from different areas, visitors hope to see themes from “Tangled”, “Zootopia”, “Tron”, “Peter Pan”, or “Toy Story”.

After reading the 9-page executive paper, city officials approved of the plan seeing the investment to have a huge economic impact for the city.

The area needed has raised concerns among residents near Magic Way and Disneyland drive. Residents have spoken out about Disneyland's influence on city council and feel like they’re voices aren't heard against Disneyland. Issues discussed from residents if the plan went in motion are traffic congestion, noise, and air pollution. In response, Disneyland plans to give $30 million dollars towards housing and eight million dollars for public parks. This will benefit more tax revenue towards the city but not directly removing those issues.

While discussing the $30 million dollar investment towards housing, residents are still skeptical.

“They’re hiding it…We want to see the projection  so we can understand it and verify it,” Anaheim resident Stephanie Mercadante said.

Since it will be done in the resort area, the revenue already brings in $139 million dollars towards city funds, so it's expected to be a higher increase.

Disneyland visitors are excited to see the new renovations, already foreshadowing their success in a near future.
