On Sunday, Feb. 14, spokesperson for Prince Harry and wife, Megan, announced some good news despite the couple's year of twists and turns concerning the royal family and their lifestyle. The couple will be expanding their family and welcoming their second child.
“We can confirm that Archie is going to be a big brother,” their spokesperson said. “The Duke and Duchess are overjoyed to be expecting their second child.”
The couple has previously expressed an interest in wanting their youngest son, Archie, to have a younger brother within a close age range. Royal Experts have speculated this is because of the age gap between Harry and his brother Prince William.
“I know that Harry loved growing up with his brother very close in age,” Etiquette trainer and royal fan Myka Meier said. “And I think he wants the same [for Archie]”
Though the news of a new baby is exciting for the couple it also brings many worries and anxieties. Unfortunately in July 2020, Harry and Megan experienced the loss of a child due to miscarriage. For the couple, this led to unbearable grief and emotional hardship.
Megan expressed more of her experiences regarding the miscarriage in the article "The Losses We Share" shortly after.
“I knew as I clutched my first born child, I was losing my second,” Markle said. “I lay in a hospital bed holding my husband's hand. I felt the clamminess of his palm and kissed his knuckles, wet from both our tears. Staring at the cold white walls, my eyes glazed over. I tried to imagine how we heal”
Despite the hardships, the new baby is still bringing excitement on a royal level for friends, fans, and family.
“Meg, I was there at your wedding to witness this love story begin, and my friend, I am honored to capture it grow,” photographer and family friend Misan Harriman tweeted.
There is still no word on when the baby is due or if the couple yet knows the gender. Nevertheless many are looking forward to the child's arrival.
