The 2nd annual National High School Coaches Association (NHSCA) Girls’ National Tournament, scheduled to take place in Virginia Beach, Virginia from March 20-24 has been postponed due to COVID-19.

Some of our Lady irish Wrestlers had been invited to compete at the national level by Coach Mike Kim. Devyn Gomez, Lauren Camp, Cameryn Hulbert, and Prethy Enriquez were the seniors who were going to attend the national tournament seeking a national title.

“Obviously at first I was hurt and sad, but at the same time I knew that there are bigger and better things coming for my team and I,” senior Lauren Camp said.“The best attitude to have about it is patience and compassion. Everyone in the community is doing the best that they can to keep us safe and I've accepted that.”

Though this year's seniors won’t be able to compete at their last high school national tournament, they certainly have greater plans ahead as some of our very own seniors plan to continue wrestling throughout their college years.

Update: A previous version of this article mentioned that the NHSCA tournament was cancelled. As of Wednesday, April 22, the tournament has been postponed.
