Halloween Hierarchy: Candy to Crunch

The worst treat to receive on Halloween night is by far, raisins. There is no greater anguish known to a child than receiving raisins on a night meant exclusively for sweets. While raisins may be a heart-healthy snack, they have no business being in candy bags. 0/10 spooks.

Slightly above raisins lay the Halloween themed pretzels and wax lips. While one is simply just colored wax, and the other is a bland everyday snack shaped like a bat, they get extra points for existing exclusively on Halloween. 2/10 spooks.

The next level of Halloween candy is fruit snacks, Tootsie Rolls, and Dum Dums. While these aren’t necessarily bad treats, they are nothing to be excited over as they are easily overshadowed by other candies of the night. These cheap candies are often left sitting at the bottom of the bag after superior candies have been eaten. 5/10 spooks.

The next tier of candies is the big name brands: Snickers, Three Musketeers, Milky Ways, Baby Ruths, M&M’s, Reese’s, Twix, and Kit Kats. These candies are often the first to go and provide an abundance of flavorful goodness for the lucky eater. Everyone looks forward to receiving these candies. 8/10 spooks.

Mexican candies deserve a category of their own. Compared to the saturation of sweetness in American candy,Rebanaditas provide a multi-layer flavor experience of chili and watermelon. Mexican candies are a palate cleanser, best for trick or treaters with more sophisticated taste. 9/10 spooks.

De la Rosa’s Marzipan is one of the only good things to exist in this cruel world. There is no greater joy than devouring a crumbling Marzipan from its wrapper with the enthusiasm of a young goat in a petting zoo.  10/10 spooks.

Caramel Apple Pops are one of those candies that seem to only exist on Halloween. This sweet treat provides a quick and easy caramel apple experience without ruining the Halloween festivities with something healthy like fruit. 10/10 spooks.

The highest tier is candy corn. Sweet, bite-sized, and iconic, there is no beating candy corn. Candy corn is a tried and true classic.  Though its flavor is simplistic, it's thoroughly enjoyable. No candy is better able to capture the Halloween spirit than good old candy corn.  11/10 spooks.
