On Aug. 16, 2024, Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga released a duet, “Die With a Smile”, which is a huge jump for both artists’ careers. The song had 2.78 million streams on the first day it was released and maintained a three-week streak on the Billboard Global 200.

“Die With a Smile” is a song that contains love and loss, with gut-wrenching lyrics. The song expresses how the narrators, Gaga and Mars, would want to die by spending the last moments with the one they love. With a beautiful melody and love serenade, mixed with belting and soft music notes, it makes a perfect ballad.

Mars was the artist who started this song and wanted Gaga to see what he was working on and sing it as a duet.

“Bruno’s talent is beyond explanation.” Gaga said to The Hollywood Reporter, “His musicianship and vision is next level.”

Both artists have had a long music career and haven’t disappointed people. This new song is something so new with two popular artists put together.

This song is a new start for both artists because they haven’t released music since the beginning of this decade and it’s a new genre for both artists. Mars is mainly known for his classic R&B and funk music, while Gaga is known for her classic pop and dance music. This strikes a new era of music as the genre is labeled, “soft rock” for this song.

“Getting to work with Gaga has been an honor,” Mars said on The Hollywood Reporter. “I’m so excited for everyone to hear it.”

Other than the music itself, the music video is inspired by a retro 70’s vibe with bright red and blue colors and big hair. It’s in a studio that’s on air with a few backup musicians and singers but maintains the focus and intensity on Gaga and Mars. It is visible to know how Gaga and Mars serenade each other, just as a true love song would.

“When I listen to their music, I really feel it because they really feel it,” senior Isabella Lopez said. “Collaborating on this song was a great move.”

Due to the rise of this duet, this could lead to the outcome of a new album for one or even both artists.
