While everyone is eager for stay-at-home orders to be lifted and to return to normal life, Governor Gavin Newsom stated in a press conference on Tuesday, April 14 that “normal” won't be normal again until a vaccine is created.

Although the curve is flattening and California is doing better than anticipated, with the virus still around, there will have to be many restrictions applied to citizens going back into the public.

“Before he lifts it completely, Newsom would modify the stay-at-home order so it’s gradually less restrictive,” Marisa Kendall from The Mercury News said. “If the virus starts spreading more rapidly as a result, he might then backtrack and restore strict restrictions.”

There will be no large gatherings allowed and face masks will be normalized as they become more common to see in public. Restaurants will have tables 6 feet away from each other with servers wearing masks and gloves. Schools are planning to reopen but with no assemblies, divided recesses and lunches, as well as deep sanitation of the school.

"We can't get ahead of ourselves,” Newsom said during his press conference. “Let's not make the mistake of pulling the plug too early.”

California is doing better only because of the stay-at-home orders. In order to continue to flatten the curve and loosen restrictions, people have to continue to practice social distancing and keep staying home, only going out for essential needs.
