Turn on the television, ITV On the Streets is here! Kennedy High’s own segment in the announcement, starring juniors Ryan Tomooka and Boris Ortiz Luis, bringing their humor and passion to the school’s announcements with just a single segment.

Tomooka and Ortiz Luis are a part of the Broadcast Media class here at Kennedy High. They created a segment in the announcements where they go around interviewing students about current events happening around campus or relevant topics that students will enjoy.

“We have to do a special content creation for this class,” junior Ortiz Luis said. “I thought about those interviews you see on YouTube or TikTok and wanted to do them.”

They were originally required to produce something for the announcements so they made the iconic ITV On the Streets. When they published their first video it quickly gained popularity and everyone anticipated the next. It is something to look forward to when it appears in the announcements. It brings a smile to the faces of students and staff alike.

“It’s the best part of the announcements,” junior Joseph Quintanilla said. “It’s the funnest and more entertaining and Ryan and Boris have high energy.”

Broadcast media is the class where ITV on the Streets was founded. It is a class that lets students use the announcements as a creative outlet as well as provides information and amusement. It is taught by Mark Churchill who is passionate about what he teaches and believes in his students.

“Primarily we are here to give out information,” Churchhill said. “Then after that, we want to be entertained.”

ITV on the Street is very well-liked but Ortiz Luis and Tomooka are more than the ‘ITV guys’ that you see on camera.

Ortiz Luis is a junior that has a love for editing videos. He enjoys being behind the scenes more than on camera. He has a passion to become either a nurse or a computer scientist.

“I like being behind the scenes unless it’s a topic I like,” Ortiz Luis said.

Tomooka is a junior that enjoys making videos. He is a part of Kennedy High's cross country and tennis team. He loves school and is always on top of his work.

“I'm just a goofy goober that enjoys school,” Tomooka said.

These students truly devote themselves to bringing enjoyment to the announcements. Their hardwork and determination to put out their best work is definitely recognized by viewers. They are continuing to be “ON THE STREETS” providing entertainment.
