The Opening of the NFL Season

The 2024 NFL season has kicked off outstandingly, showcasing early dominance from various teams and uprising new rookies. Games have been played nationwide, and fans are seeing who may be the top contenders. Many new and old players are putting up great numbers doing their best to help their team become victorious. Certain teams have switched up their playstyles and lines demonstrating. Fans wonder how the teams will come out on top this season. 


The pre-season opener between the Kansas City Chiefs vs. the Detroit Lions set the wave for an intense season. Super Bowl quarterback champion Patrick Mahomes struggled offensively. According to the NFL stats, Mahomes finished with 8/14 C/ATT, and the amount of 93 yards thrown. Both backup quarterbacks Chris Oladokun and Carson Wentz assisted on the 2 only touchdowns Kansas City got. 


The Lions, on the other hand, lived up to the hype. With Nate Suefelf, Detroit moved the ball efficiently, and according to the NFL stats, a rookie signed as a free agent, Isaiah Williams, was listed at six receptions, for 71 yards. Ultimately, the Lion’s defense stepped up, forcing a late turnover to seal a 24-23 upset victory over the Chiefs. 


“The Chiefs always have a good shot. Mahomes is a game-changer, and that team is loaded with talent,” senior Kiran Owens said.


“I also think the Vikings have a good shot. They’ve been building something special, and they’re a team to watch.” 


A new star to look out for in this NFL season is first-round pick Caleb Williams. The Chicago Bears drafted Williams as a quarterback. The Bears first-round pick showcased his elite skills in Week one, with 14/29 C/ATT for 93 yards plus a victory. Williams was the first first-round pick since 2002 to win his rookie debut game.
