Looking for a way to enjoy the perks of having a cat without the full-time commitment? Seeking leisure or stress relief with furry friends? Hoping to adopt a rescued cat or kitten? Caturday Cat Cafe and Lounge is an up-and-coming hangout in which visitors can spend time with cats.
According to the Caturday Lounge website, “It’s an enriched environment where adoptable rescue cats live and roam freely and you can visit and sip on a beverage while enjoying their company. You are helping socialize these cats at the same time.”
Located at 1211 W Central Ave., Brea CA 92821, the lounge is an easily accessible source of entertainment for cat lovers. It is a non-profit organization, meaning that any money paid goes directly toward maintaining the operation of the cafe as well as the needs of each and every cat. Once cats are adopted, proceeds go directly to OC Small Paws, an Orange County cat and kitten rescue.
“I’m allergic, but I like the idea of a cat cafe,” senior Mitch Maulit said. “It would be a chill environment, and I’d like to sip a cup of coffee with a cat next to me.”
Inspiration for the cat lounge derived from owner Kellee Notch’s personal experience at a cat cafe in Seattle called Seattle Meowtropolitan.
“I absolutely fell in love with the concept. It’s a therapeutic place for people to de-stress while helping socialize adoptable rescue cats,” Notch said.
Caturday strives to be environmentally friendly by treating their cats humanely and offering a healthy menu. Cat residents are in a free roam environment allowing for socialization amongst one another. Although they do not yet offer any food options, Caturday’s beverage menu is completely vegan.
All cats residing at Caturday have been rescued and almost every cat is adoptable. The adoption process is quick and simple. Mary Nguyen shared her experiences adopting from the lounge.
“Adopting through Caturday was quite simple and painless. They give you forms to fill out and do a casual little interview… The recent one I’ve adopted already had her shots so it was just super convenient,” Nguyen said.
On occasion, Caturday hosts special events and fun activities such as movie nights, relaxing sound baths, workshops, and yoga with the cats. Caturday also offers the opportunity to host personal events such as birthday parties and gatherings. Those interested in “MEOWga” sessions or regular visits have the opportunity to buy different types of memberships and deals. All activities are family-friendly as long as guests are seven years or older, and memories made can last a lifetime.
