On April 23, President Trump, ever the jokester, was shocked to find that his words did in fact have consequences. During a press conference, Trump suggested that injecting disinfectant could potentially serve as a cure to COVID-19.

“And is there a way we can do something like that, by injection inside or almost a cleaning?” Trump asked. “Because you see it gets in the lungs and it does a tremendous number on the lungs. So it would be interesting to check that.”

While the media rushed to report on his comments, Trump cleared up the nature of his remarks the next day.

“I was asking a question sarcastically to reporters like you just to see what would happen,” Trump said.

In true kindergartener-”it was just a prank”-fashion, Trump reassured the public that his comments were nothing more than an intricate trap for the media. Indeed, a conference aimed at calming and educating Americans on the current pandemic would undoubtedly be the perfect place to pull this prank. The old misdirection, as they say in comedy.

According to insiders close to the President, as part of his prank, Trump was debating between telling the public to inject bleach or playing dead to trick the virus away, but chose the former as he reportedly became “genuinely convinced the playing dead thing would work.”

Unfortunately, the President’s knack for pranks was and continues to be too profound for the general public, as reports of people being poisoned after drinking Pine-sol and bleach flooded in the following weekend.

These reports of poisoning are a testament to the President’s ability to seamlessly deliver a joke. After all, no good prank goes without a few casualties. So, jokes on you America.
