What Your Favorite Boba Flavor Says About You

Boba is a staple in many California teens’ diets. There seems to always be a boba place conveniently around every corner, each with their own unique set of flavor combinations. With such a variety of options available, what each individual reaches for can be very telling. Here is what some of the most popular boba flavors might reveal about the drinker.

Black Milk Tea

Ah, classic milk tea. Any respectable boba place can at least make a good, standard milk tea. If this is your go-to drink, it might mean you’re either new to the boba world or simply prefer not to take risks. Milk tea also rarely comes out terrible, which indicates you're cautious with how you spend your money.

Tiger Sugar/Brown Sugar Boba

Despite the exciting name, tiger sugar boba is simply a combination of milk and brown sugar syrup. It isn’t exactly bad, but it is a little foolish to spend around $4 a drink for something so basic. If you bought a tiger sugar boba, you were either fooled by the name once and steered clear or you convinced yourself it was good enough to keep buying. Stop settling!

Taro Milk Tea

Taro is a hard drink to make. It’s either a hit or miss, so avid taro buyers are more than likely seasoned boba drinkers who have found their favorite place to get the drink. Consequently, this means they probably spend way too much money on boba and, because of the aesthetic nature of taro, probably post a lot on social media. Taro drinkers know what they like, and their opinions - boba related or not - are highly respected.

Matcha

Much like taro drinkers, people who consistently reach for matcha are definitely more experienced buying boba. They attempt to branch out to new flavors, but will always return to the staple that is matcha. Matcha drinkers have also most likely developed a caffeine tolerance, and now gravitate towards the green drink for its high caffeine content. The flavor isn’t for everyone, meaning matcha drinkers are probably a little eccentric and prefer a small group of close friends over a larger group.

Jasmine Milk Tea

Jasmine milk tea drinkers have expensive taste. Flowery drinks aren’t necessarily everyone’s cup of tea - no pun intended - so people who genuinely enjoy rose and jasmine flavors definitely stand out from the crowd. It’s also a less popular flavor, so even though you're still a little basic for drinking boba, you leave a lasting impression on many who meet you.

Fruit Flavored Teas

Let’s be honest: you don’t belong in this category. Fruit flavored tea drinkers often belong to one of the above groups, but constantly try to expand their taste by ordering various fruity drinks. Between you and me, fruit tea drinkers, I know you're just wasting $4 on a mediocre drink to prove you have a diverse palate. Nobody was made to like blueberry tea boba, and that’s okay. Be yourself, and if that means reaching for the black tea, so be it!
